Useful Information About Mijas
How to get there.
You will firstly need to follow the signs for Cadiz out of the airport. Upon exiting the airport you will come across a roundabout and the famous San Miguel Brewery will be on your right hand side. You need to take the second exit on this roundabout going straight ahead. After which you will need to take the slip road for Torremolinos/Cadiz joining the main N-340. Once on the N-340, continue passed Benalmadena. 7kms afterwards you will begin to descend a large hill. Here you need to position yourself in either of the two right hand lanes heading towards the N-340/A-7 Fuengirola. This road then splits into two single lanes, the left will take you on the N-340/A-7 coast road on the outskirts of Fuengirola. Taking the right hand direction will take you toward the N-340/A-7 toll road. The exit for Mijas is found right at the beginning of the toll road proper, so this is much more a direct route.
Getting around in Mijas
Getting to Mijas by Car
Mijas is roughly about 22km along the Costa del Sol from Malaga airport and would take on average 20 minutes by car to reach. With Mijas, it is more economical to hire a car, due to its reasonably remote location. That said it is only a short drive to either Calahonda or Elviria, where you will find plenty of places to shop and visit during your holiday. Numerous rental car agents operate from within the airport and also in many of the cities along the Costa del Sol. The main reason why it is not always advised to rent a car is due to the difficulty to find on-street parking in many towns, especially during the summer months. It can be a better option to get a taxi into the city on the first night and then rent a car by the day if you wish to go sightseeing in the surrounding areas, though the buses on the Costa del Sol are regular and travel to most places you may wish to visit.
Take a Taxi to Mijas
As previously mentioned it can take, on average, around 20 minutes to get to Mijas by taxi from Malaga airport, and taxis are available 24 hours a day. Fares can vary depending on time of day & season. The usual, common sense rules apply when taking a taxi abroad: agree the rate in advance, if the driver is being vague ask to see the rate book, every taxi driver should be carrying one, by law. This will enable you to show them exactly where you need to go. Be aware of the minibuses, as they will often try to double charge you for your journey.
